The thoughts of starting your own software company
I've been working as a software developer this past... almost 3 years and I've already been in 3 different companies. It's not that I don't like the first two it's just I have a plan for my career. About a year ago when I cancelled my contract with a Japanese company and my previous boss was forcing me to go to Mindanao to become a developer trainer there, I was force to quit my job. So I found the third :-).
And now with the recession thing, when it's hard to get clients. Well in fact my company has a problem with that. I am constantly thinking about the possibility of bringing up my own company (this might be a good time - many things are possible at a time like this).
Well I've been working also as a part time programmer and there was a time when I have 4 at the same time, see I have management skill (joke :-)). What I would like to point out is there are jobs, works out there waiting to be taken :D. Right now I have possible projects that can keep me alive for a year or more. I wanted to take the opportunity, but is it risky? Of course yes for a technical guy like me I know I'm lacking a lot of knowledge.
I just wonder what others are thinking about this kind of stuff. I thought I could start as early as possible when I get the 2 projects that maybe worth more than my salary, quit my job and be my own boss. The hard part is who would be my teammates. Sure I have friends whom I can offer the job but the problem is assurance, can they also take the risk like me.
My technical knowledge in language ranges from (or at least I can say I'm confident with):
PL: .NET, PHP, J2ME/JSP
DB: MySQL, MSSQL, and a knowledge of Oracle
OS: Windows, Fedora, Slackware
In terms of financial there is a man willing to invest but should I risk it?
It's really hard to think about this thing and it's making my head hurt :-). Anyone thoughts?
